Myoporum insulare

Myoporum insulare, also known as Native Juniper and Boobialla, is a fast-growing coastal shrub with glossy foliage and small white flowers that appear throughout the year. This salt-tolerant plant is a popular choice for screening and coastal gardens.

As summer comes to an end, this plant produces smooth, round, purple fruits that are up to half a centimetre in diameter. They’re great for jams, jellies and preserves, but with an astringent sweetness, eating berries fresh off the branch might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Aromatic, juniper-like qualities makes Boobialla an exciting local botanical for essential oils and gin.
